Assessments and Player Placement
Assessments help Union Park Little League place players in the most appropriate division and create balanced teams.
Assessments are not tryouts and are not used to exclude players. Every registered player will be placed on a team.
Assessment dates and times are posted on the Important Dates and Calendar page.
Who Needs to Attend Assessments
Assessments are conducted for applicable divisions based on age group and level of play. If your player is required to attend,
you will see assessment details during registration and in league communications.
If a player cannot attend due to a documented conflict, please contact [email protected]
as early as possible.
How Assessments Work
What We Evaluate
Assessments typically include age-appropriate skill stations. Depending on the division, players may be evaluated on:
- Throwing and catching fundamentals
- Hitting mechanics and contact
- Fielding and footwork
- Speed and base running fundamentals
- Pitching ability and readiness (where applicable)
How We Use the Results
Assessment results are used to support:
- Balanced team formation
- Appropriate division placement
- Player safety and readiness considerations
- Coach planning and player development goals
No single station determines placement. Placement decisions consider the complete picture.
Player Placement Principles
Union Park Little League places players with three priorities in mind:
- Safety: Players should be placed where they can participate safely.
- Development: Players should be challenged appropriately and have a path to grow.
- Parity: Teams should be as balanced as possible within each division.
